An investigation is underway after video was posted to social media allegedly showing U.S. Marines using racial slurs.
Zellie Imani, an African-American activist and teacher from New Jersey, posted the Snapchat videos to Twitter posing a question to the U.S. Marine Corps.
“Marines drinking and randomly yelling ‘f–k n—–s’ on snapchat,” Imani tweeted along with the video. “Is this commonplace @USMC?”
The question drew a quick response on social media.
“The actions depicted in the videos are not in keeping with the high standard of conduct to which we hold all our Marines,” the U.S. Marines official Twitter account said in a response to Imani’s tweet. “We will thoroughly investigate the matter and take appropriate action based on the results of the investigation.”
III Marine Expeditionary Force confirmed in a statement to Marine Corps. Times that “some of the individuals portrayed in the videos are U.S. Marines.”
