CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- U.S. Marine Corps Veteran and Paralympic Rob Jones will run in the 7th annual 9/11 Heroes Run 5K in Charleston, South Carolina and serve as the event's keynote speaker and guest of honor.

Jones is a double-amputee who was injured in 2008 during his second tour of duty in Iraq.

He won a bronze medal in rowing at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, and came in 4th place at the 2013 World Rowing Championships.

In the fall of 2017, he received attention including from Sports Illustrated for completing 31 marathons over 31 days in 31 different cities to raise awareness for veteran organizations.

The 9/11 Heroes Run is sponsored by the Travis Manion Foundation and takes place every fall in communities across the U.S., with one run in Japan. The event's goal is to "unite communities internationally," and "to never forget the sacrifices of the heroes of September 11th and the wars since: veteran, first responder, civilian and military."

The Charleston run will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 8th. To see a list of all other runs taking place, visit the Travis Manion Foundation site.

Since 2012, organizers say the run has raised more than $95,000 in donations for 12 different first responder organizations.
