The sacrifice of U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Michael Scholl, killed in action in 2006, will be honored on the 12th anniversary of his death at the Clark County War Memorial at the Fort Vancouver Barracks.

The Community Military Appreciation Committee is asking the Patriot Guard Riders and members of the community to stand in remembrance today. Scholl was killed Nov. 14, 2006, in Haditha, Iraq. He and his wife, Melissa Scholl, welcomed daughter Addison Rose Scholl a month before his death. Melissa and Addison Rose will attend the ceremony with other family members.

The memorial is by the Community Military Appreciation Committee honoring local military members killed in action. It plans to hold such ceremonies every three years — on the anniversary of the military member’s death — and encourages participation from the family and community.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive around 11:30 a.m. at Fort Vancouver Way and McClellan Drive this morning. The ceremony will commence at noon and last about half an hour.
